Home Energy grants, rebates and loans
Last Day to Qualify for Energy Rebates: February 5, 2024
We learned that the Enbridge HER+ and Canada Greener Homes programs ends today. This is earler than what we were told earlier in January from Natural Resources Canada.
Enbridge Gas will be closing intake to new applicants of the Home Energy Rebate Plus program (HER+) on February 5, 2024. Ontario homeowners participating in the HER+ program who have completed a pre-retrofit energy assessment on or before February 5 may proceed with their retrofits and will continue to be eligible for funding. Ontario homeowners who applied prior to January 4, 2023 to the Canada Greener Homes Grant and have an active application can continue their journey through the Canada Greener Homes portal.
If you had your first energy assessment on or before February 5, you can continue your work. Your eligibility for grants remains intact.
The Bad News
The ending of both programs has come as a real surprise to us, especially given that they were intended to continue until 2027.
The Good News
These grants have helped a lot of Guelphites and Canadians to fight climate change at home. So many more homes have taken part in the program, than were expected, that they are simply running out of funds for the grants. This gives clear direction to the government that people across the country are doing what it takes to fight climate change in their homes.
What You Can Do
With our colleagues at Green Communities Canada we’ve set up a campaign to help you let the Minister know how you feel about these programs ending.
